In just 20 minutes, the Stockhorn cable car transports visitors to the beautiful alpine scenery awaiting at 2,139 metres above sea level. The Stockhorn is a mecca for hikers in the summertime, providing miles and miles of well-signposted trails. When it’s particularly hot, we recommend going for a dip in one of the lakes, Oberstockensee or Hinterstockensee, which are both just a short hike away from the summit. And if it’s an adrenaline rush you’re after, you can climb a route in the mountain’s limestone rockface, get a bird’s eye view of the Bernese Oberland on a paragliding flight, or go bungee jumping from the cable car.
Hiking or snowshoeing through the picturesque landscape, going (ice) fishing and feeling the serenity of nature, soaking up the sun and enjoying the panorama on the restaurant terrace, or sitting in a cozy igloo, sipping white mulled wine and indulging on fondue – there’s an activity for every taste, take your pick!
The panorama restaurant offers delicious meals made from regional ingredients, paired with a breathtaking view of the sea of fog below and the snow-capped peaks of the Bernese Oberland. By the way: If you don’t have time to visit the Stockhorn in the daytime, we recommend heading up for dinner: there’s the cozy “Alpenglanz-Znacht”, the romantic “Mondschein-Dinner” at the panorama restaurant, or an evening of fun and fondue in an igloo.
Food and Fitness
In the summer, the “Kulinarik-Trail” (culinary trail) treats gourmets to a 3-course meal on a short hike from the Stockhorn’s summit to the half-way station. There are three restaurants along the way, each serving one of the courses. If you’re a fan of food and adventure alike, we recommend the “Höhlenraclette” (cave raclette): after a guided tour into the heart of the Stockhorn massif, a delicious raclette and unforgettable atmosphere await on the Cheibenhorn.
