The Chäshütte in Bern's Old Town has been in operation since 1894. Five generations later, it is now run by brothers Dominic and Patrick Bärfuss. This charming, traditional store in Bern’s Rathausgasse has plenty on offer to set a cheese lover’s heart racing. In addition to traditional cheese varieties, the cheese counter features some wheels that have spent many months maturing into a tangy and aromatic delicacy in one of the sandstone cellars directly beneath the store.
At the Chäshütte, the mantra “Hüt isch Fonduewätter” (It’s fondue weather today!) applies 365 days a year, which is why the popular, full-flavored house blend of fondue cheese is available all year round. If you haven’t tried this fondue yet, you’re really missing something!
