Maybe, in addition to the parliament, you would like to learn more about some hidden gems in Swiss history that lie beyond the federal mile – our tour guides will take you on a refreshing, 45-minute-long journey through time. You will be walking from the Bundesplatz to the Bärenplatz, pass by the restaurant «Zum Äusseren Stand» where the Swiss Federal Constitution was born, through Bern’s typical sandstone arcades, to the Erlacherhof where the «Stapi» (Bern’s mayor) resides.
The short city tours are individually compiled and conducted by experienced Bern Welcome city guides. They take visitors on an exciting walk away from the hustle and bustle and instead through the alleyways of the federal city. They will tell you about all kinds of events – some of which not even Bernese people know about –, unearth unknown incidents and enrich historical facts with one or two anecdotes. This walk is a combination of the popular city tours «UNESCO Stroll through the Old City» and «1848 – Bern’s birth as a federal city» and just goes to show: The tour guides in Bern are as diverse as the city itself.
