Bern locals love relaxed shopping trips that last for hours, whatever the weather. Thanks to one of the longest weather-protected stretchs of shopping promenade in Europe (6km), this is in fact quite feasible.

The "Lauben", as the Bernese call their arcades, are admirably suited for a jaunty stroll among the historic city scenery. There is something for everyone, from international fashion chains to small arcade stores and traditional markets.

The cellar shops are another distinctive feature, playing host to fashion boutiques, art galleries, and wine merchants.
