In the nineteenth century, Swiss families were among those who emigrated to the Argentinian city of Esperanza, a name which means “hope” in Spanish. “Suiza existe” goes in search of the past in the Esperanza of 2018. Students at the Catholic Colegio San José decided to investigate notions of identity in Esperanza – Swiss, Argentinian, and everything between – and have portrayed the descendants of the Swiss émigrés using a genre of their own choosing: photo, video, or text.
