The picture captures the majestic calm of an empty theatre hall. Sumptuous, gold-decorated boxes frame the red velvet seats waiting for the stage to come to life. A place full of potential drama and stories.
The picture shows the Bern Symphony Orchestra in formal dress, ready for a performance. The musicians are lined up on an elegant stage, each with their instrument, surrounded by the magnificent architecture of the concert hall, creating an atmosphere of solemn expectation.
A group of dancers, dressed in white, create a dynamic composition on stage, their movements expressive and full of passion, captured in a moment of collective energy and harmony.

Each season (from late August to July), the Bühnen Bern stages more than 400 performances and concerts, ranging from Wagner’s Ring to modern musicals and from the Swiss classic “The Black Spider” to new choreographies by the Bern Ballet. In addition to the well-known classics, you can also see world premieres and first performances. The Bern Symphony Orchestra also plays various concerts at the Casino Bern, with world stars such as Regula Mühlemann, Jaap van Zweden and Sophie Hunger, and accompanies the opera at the Bern Theatre, creating unforgettable evenings in the magnificent theatre on Kornhausplatz. The Vidmarhallen in Liebefeld offer two additional stages for a variety of contemporary theatre performances. The high artistic quality of Bühnen Bern’s productions attracts attention and awards from beyond the canton’s borders, drawing in new fans as well as loyal regulars.

The extensive programme is complemented by rehearsal visits, play previews and a varied programme for children and young adults, including drama clubs, dance projects and premiere classes.

There are free introductory matinees for opera and drama, rehearsal visits for ballet, and, for a small fee, morning concerts by the Bern Symphony Orchestra. Click here for further information.
