Sunshine, a view of the mountains, and a big smile on your face – sounds good, right? That’s why we recommend a cross-country skiing weekend with an overnight stay in the Gantrisch to combat your February blues. Set your alarm, catch the 8:06 a.m. train from Bern to Schwarzenburg and ride the snow bus until Schwarzenbühl. From there, it’s only a short walk to the mountain hut Selital Guggisberg, ready to check you in. Equipment can be rented at the beginning of the trail Schwarzenbühl. That is also where you can find the meeting point for the cross-country skiing courses (for everybody who wants to be the next Dario Cologna or Nadine Fähndrich). If your muscles are not too sore the next day, you can even get up at sunrise to enjoy the trail just by yourself.
Off to the trails
Hiking in the snow, cuteness included? You can find that on the llama farm in Huttwil. The Walker-Wüthrich family welcomes its guests with a lot of heart and soul in the Bernese Oberaargau. Everybody gets to choose a fluffy walking companion and then you’re off on a hike over the snow-covered hills. If you haven’t had enough time to cuddle with the animals, you can stay overnight at the farm. You won’t just find llamas here but also chickens, rabbits and cats. You can finish off your experience with an indulgent breakfast buffet the next day.

Water, slides, action
You can blow off some steam in the bouldering hall at the Bimano where you can find Bern’s climbing scene. It might look easy, but you will feel the burn in your arms. Nevertheless, it’s fun for the whole family. A tip for the newcomers: the routes are colour-coded. You start with your hands on the marked starting holds and your feet on the corresponding steps. As soon as you’ve touched the last hold for five seconds, the route is completed. Enjoy climbing up and down the entire hall that way. Should you be scared of heights, we suggest you wait until the evening when the children’s playground next door transforms into a skating hall.
Blow off some steam

Who hasn’t heard the squeaky notes of a first attempt at playing the violin? Ambitious musicians are bound to come across pieces by the famous composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Now is the time to repay your parents’ patience during your squeaky beginnings: the famous artist’s songs are being given a new form for the newest dance piece at the Bühnen Bern (city theatre Bern). The Swiss premier of «Bach Recomposed» combines choreography – all relating to Bach’s music – from artist from three continents. You won’t hear any crooked sounds here but enjoy fascinating dances and melodious songs. Call your parents, buy tickets, and get comfy in the concert chairs.
