6 Bernese Highlights in February
Cross-country skiing weekend in the Gantrisch
Sunshine, a view of the mountains, and a big smile on your face – sounds good, right? That’s why we recommend a cross-country skiing weekend with an overnight stay in the Gantrisch to combat your February blues. Set your alarm, catch the 8:06 a.m. train from Bern to Schwarzenburg and ride the snow bus until Schwarzenbühl. From there, it’s only a short walk to the mountain hut Selital Guggisberg, ready to check you in. Equipment can be rented at the beginning of the trail Schwarzenbühl. That is also where you can find the meeting point for the cross-country skiing courses (for everybody who wants to be the next Dario Cologna or Nadine Fähndrich). If your muscles are not too sore the next day, you can even get up at sunrise to enjoy the trail just by yourself.

Hiking with Lamas in Huttwil
Hiking in the snow, cuteness included? You can find that on the llama farm in Huttwil. The Walker-Wüthrich family welcomes its guests with a lot of heart and soul in the Bernese Oberaargau. Everybody gets to choose a fluffy walking companion and then you’re off on a hike over the snow-covered hills. If you haven’t had enough time to cuddle with the animals, you can stay overnight at the farm. You won’t just find llamas here but also chickens, rabbits and cats. You can finish off your experience with an indulgent breakfast buffet the next day.

Have Fun Swimming in the Bernaqua
Always feeling cold? The Bernaqua has many warm options for movement, fun and total relaxation. Their colourful jungle landscape «Takatikiland» teaches your youngest offspring how to navigate the waters in the shallow end. Older kids can go on adventures on the pirate ship. And if you’re looking for even more action: the longest indoor water slides in Switzerland will give you the right kind of adrenaline rush. The wild-water canyon lets the adventurer in you travel through calm pools and thundering rapids. In addition to the slides, you also have many opportunities to relax. Forget about the stress of your everyday life in the brine bath or stimulate your circulation in the cold-water tub.

Bouldering and Skating at the Bimano
You can blow off some steam in the bouldering hall at the Bimano where you can find Bern’s climbing scene. It might look easy, but you will feel the burn in your arms. Nevertheless, it’s fun for the whole family. A tip for the newcomers: the routes are colour-coded. You start with your hands on the marked starting holds and your feet on the corresponding steps. As soon as you’ve touched the last hold for five seconds, the route is completed. Enjoy climbing up and down the entire hall that way. Should you be scared of heights, we suggest you wait until the evening when the children’s playground next door transforms into a skating hall.
