Day 3

With a walk through the oldest district of Bern, culinary delights in the traditional Kornhauskeller restaurant, and a guided tour of the centuries-old Clock Tower, your third day is sure to be historic.

Stroll along the Aare river

In the morning, as the city awakens, the Aare radiates a special calm. What better way to start off your day than with a walk along its banks? Our tip: Walk the 5-km route to Elfenau Park. From the BearPark, it leads through the Matte neighbourhood, the oldest district in Bern, and then to the famous Marzili outdoor swimming pool. Crossing the Schönausteg pedestrian bridge and on past the Bern Animal Park, Dählhölzli, the path continues upstream to Elfenau.

Lunch at the Kornhauskeller

Back in Bern (bus no. 19 takes you back to the city centre), we highly recommend a visit to Restaurant Kornhauskeller. The charm of the past blends perfectly here with the stylish interior decorating. A former granary, there are now two restaurants housed here in addition to a library and the Kornhausforum. The menu includes local specialities and hearty classics that can be savoured in what is probably the most impressive vaulted cellar in Bern.
