The successful first edition of EKZ CrossTour in Bern last October laid the foundation for the successful candidature. The unique course around Europe's largest open-air swimming pool, the impeccable organization, perfect infrastructure and, last but not least, the large number of spectators, laid the foundations to put Switzerland back on the map of world cyclocross.

A reward for the healthy development and hard work
For the EKZ CrossTour, organizing a World Cup marks a great, but also logical, step into the future. Since the launch of the CrossTour in 2014, the racing series has grown from four to six races, has steadily increased the number of participants, and has gained more and more importance on the Swiss and international cyclocross scene. The organizer Christian Rocha is very satisfied: "I see this successful bid for the UCI Cyclocross World Cup in Bern primarily as a reward for the work of the recent years. Our series, and thus Swiss cyclocross, has developed well in recent years and is now ready to go one step higher." Rocha adds: “With the City of Bern we have found the perfect partner to establish a round of the World Cup in the long-term."

Two-day event planned
Cyclocross in Switzerland is not just a sport for professionals. "It will not only be a sports event but also a social event for everyone," says Rocha. Races for kids, youth categories and hobby riders without a racing license, are always part of the international EKZ CrossTour series. Therefore, the UCI Cyclocross World Cup will be extended to two days. Saturday, 20th October, is planned as a day for youth categories, hobby riders, kids and families. The local club "Verein Radquer Bern" will be responsible for the organization in cooperation with the "crossroads Event und Kommunikation GmbH".
