Grünes Band Bern
This scenic e-bike route covers 59 kilometres and connects the communities around Bern – a city well suited to cyclists. Surrounded by nature and yet in very close proximity to the city, the Grünes Band (Green Belt) is perfect for both adventurers and those who like to enjoy the finer things in life.
The E-bike Route 888 – Grünes Band is much more than “just” a cycling route. The focus is really on discovering local highlights, so it's definitely worth making regular stops along the way. At specially marked spots – be sure to look out for the green signboards – you'll find interesting, funny and surprising facts about the region's nature and agriculture. For example, you’ll discover why beavers were almost wiped out, why the water of the Belper Giessen is so remarkably clear, and how the hamlet of “Chäs und Brot” (cheese and bread) got its name. At each location, unique tree-trunk benches also invite you to linger for a while, and you can plan your upcoming stops thanks to the illustrated route information (only available in German and French).
Even better, you don’t have to worry if you start to get hungry from all that pedalling. The numerous charming farm and village shops along the way offer all the ingredients you need for a delicious picnic or a BBQ break. If you prefer a meal made from local ingredients or a freshly baked dessert, you can make a stop at one of the restaurants or pubs en route.
Getting off your bike and taking a break is not only permitted, it’s highly recommended. You’ll be sorry if you don’t! Sounds like the exciting and enjoyable excursion you’ve been looking for? If so, grab your E-bike and head for the Grünes Band!
The route can easily be broken up into several stages, leaving more time to enjoy the experiences. You can also choose your own starting point, direction and route length. All you have to do is follow the red Veloland 888 signs and stop at the marked highlights.
