Più Kornhaus

Naples comes to Bern: The recently opened Più Ristorante, complete with its own vinotheque, brings Italian flair to the Kornhausplatz (Granary Square).

Following the success of the two Più restaurants in Zurich, the third Più has been opened in the historic Kornhaus, once the city’s granary and more recently the home of the famous Kornhauscafé. The influence of an architect from Tel Aviv, the elegant furnishings and the colorful paintings of local artist Lorenz Spring have resulted in a bright, airy restaurant with an open and welcoming feel. The kitchen is also open, presenting patrons with a view of the restaurant’s chefs and pizza specialists at work as they prepare customers’ orders.

“La vera pizza Napolitana” is the house specialty. It is rather thicker than the usual pizzas in Switzerland and is light and airy because the dough is allowed to rest for 48 hours. After the dough has rested, the pizza is baked in a wood-fired oven. But the Più is more than “just” an up-market pizzeria: the menu features other Italian classics such as beef carpaccio, Mediterranean fish dishes and panna cotta.

“Wine transforms a meal into a feast”: Guests looking for the right wine to accompany their meal can obtain advice from sommeliers in the restaurant’s own vinotheque and then enjoy their selection as they eat. If guests want to relax with a glass of wine as an aperitif, they can choose from the excellent wine list and are welcome to linger over the delicious “stuzzichini” (Italian canapés).

During the day the vinotheque becomes a wine shop offering around 70 different varieties which customers can take with them or arrange to be delivered to their home. But the vinotheque is not “just” a source of delight for wine connoisseurs – thanks to the expert advice from the sommeliers, everyone can find the right bottle to suit their taste.
