The 488‑km Trans Swiss Trail is a long-distance hiking route which takes walkers from Porrentruy to Mendrisio in 32 stages.

The ninth stage starts in the small historic town of Laupen and then follows the river Sense to Neuenegg, before continuing to Köniz via Mengestorf and finally on to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site of Bern.
