The 488‑km Trans Swiss Trail is a long-distance hiking route which takes walkers from Porrentruy to Mendrisio in 32 stages.

The thirteenth stage is a high-altitude hike over the Hohwacht-Girsgrat chain of hills. The route from Langnau im Emmental to Eggiwil leads past a historic signal post, a cheese dairy and one of Switzerland’s oldest tunnels. The landscape which awaits walkers is a typical Emmental patchwork of ridges, valleys, meadows and woodlands.
