Skiing on the Gurten

A small skiing paradise near the capital: the ski slope on Bern’s local mountain offers an unforgettable winter experience, especially for families and beginners.

Leave the fog behind and take the Gurten funicular up to the ski slope! As soon as there is enough snow, the Gurten turns into a little winter wonderland. Mini ski lifts as well as ski and sledding slopes offer fun in the snow for the entire family.

Bern’s local mountain is ideal for children and beginners: the ski slope is not steep and therefore perfect for the first turns, and the ski school is not far either.

Equipment can be rented on-site, and the day pass is inexpensive (it costs five francs). If the snow conditions are unclear, we recommend checking the Gurten Park website.

If you prefer sledding, you can rent a wooden sled at the top station of the Gurten funicular and speed down the sledding slope all the way to the funicular’s half-way station – a steep run and hilly passages included. More information on sledding on the Gurten can be found here.
