After leaving Riffenmatt, the first climb on the King’s Route leads past the old moor baths before crossing the Schwarzwasser in Tröligraben. A descent then leads to Eywald, followed by a continuous climb – first on a paved Alpine road, and from Schleifgraben onwards along unpaved paths.
A woodcutter’s path takes mountain bikers across into the Selital/Schwarzenbühl region, followed by an easy leg of the route until the Horbüel Pass. Then it gets challenging, and the next section over woodland paths and Alpine meadows makes it very clear why this trail is called the King’s Route.
The following descent leads via the old trader’s path and requires a certain amount of nerve, but can also be completed by foot. Afterwards, a very long and spectacular descent over stony Alpine and woodland paths leads to a final paved stretch back to Riffenmatt.
