As soon as the beautiful landscape of the Gantrisch Nature Park is covered with snow, it becomes a favourite destination for winter sports enthusiasts. The cantonal road (Süftenenstrasse) is closed off for this purpose. It stays this way from the beginning of December to the beginning of April. More detailed information is available on the website.

Every year the Langlaufzentrum Gantrisch (cross-country skiing centre Gantrisch) provides 45 kilometres of superbly groomed trails, just a stone’s throw away from the city of Bern. You can find this paradise for skating and classic cross-country skiing at snow-sure altitudes of 1,450 to 1,650 metres above sea level.

The Langlaufzentrum Gantrisch (Gantrisch cross-country skiing centre) lies between Schwarzenbühl Selital, Ottenleuebad and Gurnigel Wasserscheide. You start at Gurnigel Wasserscheide, Selital or the Stierehütte which can easily be reached by public transport or car. This is also where you can rent the necessary equipment for cross-country skiing. Trail passes can be purchased online or on site.

The trails’ current conditions, how much snow there is or whether the sun is shining can be seen live via the webcams.

Getting there

Public transport

To get there by public transport, take the regional train S44 from platform 4 from Bern in the direction of Thun and get off in Thurnen. From there, take bus B 323 in the direction of Schwarzenburg Bahnhof and get off at Gurnigel Berghaus. Here’s the SBB timetable to plan your trip.

Gantrisch Schneebus

In the winter months, the Gantrisch Schneebus shuttle takes visitors from Schwarzenburg train station directly to the Selital (get off at “Schwarzenbühl, Kuhrhaus”).

Cross-country skiing equipment can be rented in three locations. The fee is CHF 20 for a day. You can pay in cash or by Twint.

Of course, you can also bring along a picnic and enjoy it in a quiet spot next to the trail.

There are now designated carpool points at which visitors can wait for a lift.

Introduction to Cross-Country Skiing

Narrow skis and a slippery terrain – cross-country skiing is tricky! But thanks to the introductory course, where participants learn the most important basics of the skating and classic techniques, you’ll get the hang of it in no time. Onto the trail you go!
