Sunday Brunch at Restaurant Schwellenmätteli

A leisurely stroll along the Aare river is just as much a part of the Bernese Sunday ritual as the “Züpfe” (pleated bread) for breakfast. Combine the two (and add a glass of bubbly) by going for brunch at Schwellenmätteli.

After strolling down the Aare river on a Sunday morning, you’ll find everything your heart and stomach desire at the diverse and rich breakfast buffet at Schwellenmätteli: from A as in antipasti to Z as in “Züpfe” – and everything in between: some B as in Bircher muesli, F as in fresh fruit or S as in scrambled eggs. Try your way through the entire alphabet while enjoying the rumbling of the river directly below you.

With brunch so close to the water, it would be a shame if there wasn’t any fish on the menu. And is there anything better than for your Sunday morning lox to be accompanied by a glass of Prosecco? Not really. There’s also non-alcoholic Rimuss – Schwellenmätteli is a family-friendly restaurant. The bubbles are included in the price, as are all other breakfast beverages.

Pro tip: when indulging on all the delicious treats, don’t forget to leave some room for dessert. And if you’ve overdone it a little, you can walk it off along the Aare river waiting right outside the restaurant – now isn’t that practical!
