The open bakery lets you watch the bakers shape different kinds of bread, such as “Chueflade”, “Ligu Lehm”, “Bsetzi” and “Scharfer Berner”. And these are only some of the originally named, oven-fresh creations that bread sommelier Patrik Bohnenblust and his team bake every day. For over 100 years, it’s been tradition to bake bread at Münstergasse 74.
Bread à porter, Bern’s sourdough bakery, is known far beyond the city limits and favours the use of local and regional products.
The entire range of products is available “à porter” (French for “to take away”) or to enjoy in one of the two locations: underneath the arcades at Münstergasse 74 or in the café at Kornhausplatz 11.
The charming bakery also organises events such as Easter bunny casting in spring or the Tour de Pain where Bern’s bread sommelier guides the participants through the old town and spoils them with exciting facts regarding the Münstergass sourdough as well as tasty treats along the way.
