Bern’s Museum Quarter

Creating a museum quarter in Kirchenfeld has been the subject of lively discussion for years. Now, we are finally seeing some action. An association was founded in June 2021 to enable various cultural institutions to collaborate more closely and develop projects together.

Curator, facilitator and editor Sally De Kunst is the managing director of the “Museumsquartier Bern” association, which aims to transform Kirchenfeld into a new urban space for art, culture and dialogue within the next four years. By encouraging collaboration between various cultural institutions located around Helvetiaplatz, new formats, projects and exhibitions will be created that explore and document the changes taking place in society and nature. A special focus will be placed on audience participation as well.

From biodiversity to inclusion and architecture: Ideas are gathered during various public workshops and events, and are then incorporated into the association’s own pool of ideas. For example, a museum garden is being planned for the vacant lot between the Museum of Communication and the Bern Historical Museum, which will provide a place where friends, colleagues and families can meet up and where Bern’s cultural scene will be celebrated.
