Bern among Europe’s Best Hockey Towns!
Bern has been listed on rank 7 among the top 42 hockey towns in Europe by Canadian online travel agency FlightNetwork.
«Bern – The Swiss Capital of Hospitality and Hockey» announces the Canadian online travel agency FlightNetwork on their blog and puts Bern on the 7th rank of Europe’s Best Hockey Towns. They emphasize Bern’s typical laid-back way of life which contrasts with the fact that the locals are such die-hard hockey fans. Bern’s hockey team SC Bern is one of the most well-known clubs in and out of Switzerland and they’ve won the National League A Championships fourteen times.
The PostFinance-Arena, its home stadium and one of the largest ice hockey stadiums in Europe, is regularly sold out as the SC Bern holds the highest average attendance among European clubs for the 15th time in a row. The SC Bern plays in an attractive way and is supported by a very strong and devoted fan base and a fantastic atmosphere in the PostFinance-Arena. Locals call the players of the SC Bern «Mutzen», which is the Bernese word for bears. Since the Swiss capital’s symbol is the bear and its BearPark is one of the main touristic sights, the «Mutzen» – or the SC Bern – fits very well to Bern.
But the Swiss capital is not the only Bernese town that is ranked among Europe’s top 42 hockey towns by FlightNetwork. Langnau im Emmental, a municipality in the middle of the hilly Emmental valley around thirty minutes from the city center of Bern, is home of the top-level hockey club SCL Tigers and known for its loyal fan base.
