The Bern Symphony Orchestra

The Bern Symphony Orchestra is a musical home to all classical music fans. Founded in 1877, today it functions as both the Bern City Orchestra and the Ballet and Opera Orchestra for the Stadttheater Bern (Bern Theatre).

The Bern Symphony Orchestra is known for its diverse concerts, its collaborations with renowned and internationally invited conductors and soloists as well as its guest performances in Switzerland and abroad. Krzysztof Urbański will be the Chief Conductor of the Bern Symphony Orchestra starting from the 2024/25 season.

The Bern Symphony Orchestra is one of the largest in Switzerland. Over 100 professional musicians perform around 50 concerts per season, including symphony, family and matinee concerts as well as special formats such as Über ds Chrüz, where classical music meets pop culture (for example in concerts with Sophie Hunger, Lo & Leduc or Mario Batkovic).

The large, festive hall in the Kultur-Casino Bern is the main venue. This traditional orchestra is a part of the institution Bühnen Bern and also functions as the orchestra for opera and ballet performances at the Bern Theatre.
