Musica Classica

The association Musica Classica unites three musical formations: the concert choir Canto Classico (founded in 2006), the professional Orchestra Classica (2009) and the professional vocal ensemble Novocanto (2016).

All three, founded by their creative director, Willi Derungs, regularly give concerts not only in Berne (Französische Kirche, Kulturcasino, Yehudi Menuhin Forum), but all over Switzerland, in venues such as the Tonhalle in Zürich, and the KKL in Lucerne.

In 2012, the concert choir Canto Classico enjoyed successful concert tours, both in Italy and in Switzerland, with the mezzo soprano Vesselina Kasarova.

The repertoire of the three ensembles is diverse, ranging from music of the Renaissance period to contemporary works, including several first performances. While Canto Classico also performs music from operas, operettas and musicals, a special importance is given to both the music of the classical and baroque periods and of the 20th and 21st centuries. Musica Classica also shows a commitment to performances of Swiss music.
